Dental Assistant

(DA) 12 Week Program

After completing this 12-week Dental Assistant program, graduates will be able to prepare patients for treatment, assist the Dentist during procedures, chart, take X-rays, sterilize instruments, provide oral hygiene instructions to patients, prepare dental filling materials, take impressions, and much more.

You will be ready to step right into your new career!

This course includes lecture, lab, clinical practice, books, scrubs, four certifications, job placement assistance, and a certification of completion. This dental assistant course is available in Encino or Downey.

Registered Dental Assistant

(RDA) 900 Hour Program

After completing this nine-month comprehensive course, the graduate will be ready to start work as a Dental Assistant and sit for the Registered Dental Assistant Licensing Exam.

Our Registered Dental Assistant program is California Dental Board-approved which enables graduates to be eligible to take their licensing exam immediately upon completion of the course. Registered Dental Assistants are approved to perform more job duties and they receive higher compensation than an unlicensed Dental Assistant.

This course includes lecture, lab, clinical practice, books, scrubs, six certifications, internship experience, job placement assistance, and a certificate of completion. The registered dental assistant program is available in Encino and Downey.

 

Orthodontic Assistant Permit Course

(OA) Six-Week Course

After completing this course, the graduate will be competent in performing the daily duties of an Orthodontic Assistant and be eligible to sit for the Orthodontic Assistant Permit Exam.

The California Dental Board requires that all Dental Assistants and RDA’s who are working in an orthodontic practice and who are performing the duties of the Orthodontic Assistant must have an Orthodontic Assistant Permit.

As of January 2010, one of the eligibility requirements to obtain an OA permit is to complete a board-approved Orthodontic Assistant Course.

Our course is a six-week, California Dental Board-approved course which includes Dental Practice Act Certification, lecture, hands-on practice, Infection Control 8-Hour Certification, Ultrasonic Scaling Certification, and all course materials. The orthodontic assistant program is available in Encino and Downey.

 

 

Coronal Polishing Certification

After completing this course, participants will receive a Coronal Polishing certificate. This certification is required by the California Dental Board for Dental Assistants who wish to perform coronal polishing on patients in a dental office and those seeking to become Registered Dental Assistants (RDAs) . Courses are available at our Encino and Downey locations.

Certification Requirements: Current 8-hour Infection Control , Radiology and CPR certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) prior to homework patient day

Course Schedule:

This is a three-day course:

  • Day One: Lecture, Lab
  • Day Two: Homework day, Two Patients
  • Day Three: Written Exam, Clinical Exam, One Patient

 

Infection Control Course

8 Hours

After completing this course, the graduate will earn a certificate in Infection Control 8-Hours. This certificate is a requirement of the California Dental Board for ALL unlicensed and licensed Dental Assistants who work in a dental office. Register in Encino or Downey.

Our Dental Board-approved and required Eight-Hour Infection Control course is divided into two modules — didactic and clinical.

Students are required to complete 4 hours of online lectures and reading materials prior to the scheduled class date.

This is a one-day course.

 

Dental Practice Act

After completing this course, the graduate will earn a certificate in the Dental Practice Act, Law, and Ethics. This certificate is a requirement of the California Dental Board for ALL unlicensed and licensed Dental assistants who work in a dental office. Register in Encino or Downey.

This is a Dental Board-approved and required course covering Dental Laws and Ethics.

This is a one-day online course.

 

CPR Certification

After completing this course, the graduate will earn a two-year certificate in CPR. This certificate is a requirement of the California Dental Board for ALL unlicensed and licensed Dental Assistants who work in a dental office. Register in Encino or Downey.

This is a four-hour course and is a required certification for all employees working in the healthcare industry.

This course is given by an experienced CPR instructor recognized by the California Dental Board and the American Heart Association.

This certification must be renewed every two years.

 

Ultrasonic Scaling

After completing this course, the graduate will earn a certificate in Ultrasonic Scaling. This certificate will allow the graduate to remove cement from orthodontically banded and unbanded teeth. Register in Encino or Downey.

This is a one-day course:

  • Includes lecture and hands-on work with mannequins.
  • The written exam is given on the same day.

 

RDA Exam Prep

VSDA offers a one-day RDA Exam Prep Course. Register in Encino or Downey.

*There is an additional fee for the RDA Written Exam prep book.

 

Intro to Radiology (X-ray Certification)

After completing this course, the graduate will earn a certificate in California Radiation Safety (X-ray). This certificate is a requirement of the California Dental Board for all unlicensed Dental Assistants and for those Dental Assistants who are seeking to become an RDA or renew an RDA License and/or take X-rays on patients in a dental office. This course is designed for individuals who are new to the field and have no prior experience with dental X-rays. Register in Encino or Downey.

Certification Requirements: Current 8-hour Infection Control and CPR certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) prior to homework patient day.

Course Schedule:

This is a four-day course:

  • Day 1: Lecture – introduction to X-ray principles, radiation safety, and technique
  • Day 2: Mannequin radiographs practice , 2 FMX , 2 BWX
  • Day 3: Homework and 3 patient FMX
  • Day 4: Final patient FMX and written exam

Radiology

After completing this course, the graduate will earn a certificate in California Radiation Safety (X-ray). This certificate is a requirement of the California Dental Board for all unlicensed Dental Assistants and for those Dental Assistants who are seeking to become an RDA or renew an RDA License and/or take X-rays on patients in a dental office. Register in Encino or Downey.

This is a three to four day course:

  • Day One: Lecture , Two FMX Mannequins, Two BWX
  • Day Two: Homework day**, 3 FMX Patiens
  • Day Three: Written exam, Clinical Exam, One FMX Patient

**The Encino location offers an additional homework day.
